The largest municipality in the Durham region, Oshawa has a population of 149,607. It was once known as Canada’s central automotive capital, and it is still home to the GM headquarters. Today it is better known as a center for education-it hosts three post-secondary institutions-and health sciences. In 2016, it was listed as the sixth best place to find full-time employment, according to Stats Can data. Located just 60 kilometers east of Toronto, it is still a popular choice of residence for commuters who work in the GTA.
