2019 Jeep Cherokee Won Superior Safety Results | Toronto, Mississauga

550 × 366

We all want a safe vehicle, although it might not always be our first thought when deciding on what to buy. There are two occasions when safety rises closer to the top, however, and they include when we have a family and when we want a vehicle that pushes boundaries, like taking it off the asphalt. Immediately the Jeep springs to mind and well it should, especially as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2019 Jeep Cherokee the highest rating of “Good” in five crash tests, giving it a coveted 4-star overall rating. It’s our top selling model in the whole GTA, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Barrie and Oakville.

Cherokee Safety Features (Some standard, some optional):

  • Rearview camera
  • Parking sensors
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rain-sensing windshield wiper
  • Parallel and perpendicular park assist
  • Automatic high beams
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror.

I was reading an article the other day, about a Canadian Cherokee driver who was singing the praises of Jeep’s top-selling model—at least in the GTA. Her father was a “car-guy” and because of that she had more than your average education about cars and what to look for, like comfort, speed, reliability, resale, looks, ergonomics, off-road capabilities and, of course, safety. For her the Jeep checked all the boxes. She and her six-foot tall husband drove a 2008 Jeep Cherokee and they were looking to test-drive a 2019 Cherokee.

She immediately fell in love with the look of the new Cherokee and it came in the colour red she loved so much—Velvet Red Pearl. She loved the black trim and wheels that perfectly accented the red body.

She had been used to leather seats, but found that sliding into the Cherokee’s cloth seats was an easy adjustment and she appreciated their comfort.

She was also pleased that the Cherokee North easily accommodated her husband’s tall frame and seemed to fit them both perfectly, despite their differences in height.

A self-admitted speed limit pusher, she noted the power of the turbo-charged 4 cylinder engine.

Some people like to keep their Cherokee on the highway, but some more adventurous folks like to take their Cherokees off-road. Jeep responded to this by providing three versions of its four-wheel-drive systems: Jeep Active-Drive I, Jeep Active-Drive II and the eat-my-dust Active-Drive Lock for some serious off-roading shenanigans.

Our intrepid reviewer thought the Cherokee was pretty smooth on the highway, but didn’t have a chance to take it for an off-road adventure.

She was impressed by the increased cargo area and thought it would suit her family’s purposes very well.

The reviewer and her husband were impressed with how quiet the Jeep Cherokee was and were told it was because of special noise control features on the 2.0-L turbocharged engine.

They drove through some serious Canadian winter experiences and truly appreciated the heated steering wheel and seats.

The pair easily decided their next vehicle purchase would be the 2019 Cherokee—with and added sun roof and passenger electric seat adjustments.

If you’re still not convinced this is the next vehicle for you, here are a few more reasons why:

  • A new 2019 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.2L Pentastar V6 engine with 271 HP and 239 lb-ft of twist

  • All engines are mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission

·        Liftover height is 30.9 inches for a 4×4 model.

·     Two wheel drives get approximately 48 KPG highway and 37 KPG city

·      Active Drive I gets an estimated 34 KPG city and 47 highway

·      Active Drive Lock gets 32 KPG city, but 42 KPG highway
