2020 Jeep Wrangler Ecodiesel Now for Sale | Toronto, Mississauga
The Wonder Jeep
Have you ever got yourself in a bit of a hairy situation behind the wheel? Perhaps your vehicle suddenly doesn’t feel so steady when sizing up a 30-degree wall of rock? Most drivers would wonder if they would make it unscathed, but in a pick-up like the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel you may not have to wonder at all. Sure, in most trucks, if you are looking more at sky than terra firma it would give yo u a moment for pause, however this truck is no ordinary pick up. However, if you lean in to the throttle, your confidence will be renewed as the wheels slowly creep towards the bolt of blue, hauled by the generous amount of torque. All of this and more in the first ever Jeep Wrangler with a diesel engine in North America, coming to your local dealership in Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Brampton and Peel regions
There has been some sharing between friends as the engine in this baby is a nicely modified version of the 3.0-litre V6 EcoDiesel engine used in the new Ram 1500 pickup. This engine puts a few pounds on to the Jeep Wrangler, and it looks good. That is 200 kilograms more in comparison to the standard 3.6L Pentastar gasoline V6. However, there is no issue with the weight as the diesel engine also adds power, so the trade off is more than sufficient. Who could argue with 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque from as little as 1,400 rpm in a heartbeat? If there is anything you need when you are out on the road less travelled, hillock, mountain side or wherever your path takes you in your Jeep, it's a responsive, sturdy, powerful pick up to muscle you through the tough spots. Sure doesn’t hurt if that vehicle is good looking!
Returning to the wall of rock at hand, or perhaps foot as the case may be, there are some handling tips you should know. When the wall of rock becomes littered with boulders that you will have to climb, the power can be a bit over enthusiastic as the turbo spools up and the engine gets its growl on. However, this will be no sweat off your Jeep Wrangler loving self, even if the co-pilot is biting their lip or gripping their seat. All it requires is some fancy footwork on the break to get you passed the hairy situation. However when your Jeep Wrangler is doing its thing on the rocks, it is in its element. After all, isn’t that just exactly what a Jeep was built for? You betcha!
With all the hauling and grinding of the powerful engine you can still expect the diesel to purr like a kitten when idle. So you won’t to have to yell to be heard by your co-pilot. In fact, unless they are Jeep Wrangler-literate they wouldn’t even realize they are driving in a diesel. This is understandable as the FCA spent a lot of time and effort to quiet this vehicle, and we’re not just talking about the engine. The acoustics entering the interior have been cushioned with many layers of insulation as well as different carpets. The vibration has been seriously reduced with special engine mounts. Vibration damping works as well on the lower oil sump. The spring rates were revised for the heavier diesel engine, which is seven kilograms lighter than the old compacted graphite iron block.
Even though there are similarities, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel is not a total identical twin to the Ram. For instance, it uses the new technology of the third-generation EcoDiesel, constructed in Italy. Pistons reduce “slap” by offsetting the crank-pin-hole a bit. The turbocharger is new, and now water-cooled and with variable geometry. The redesign of the intake ports means they can deal with more flow; higher pressure direct-injection nozzles pair better with the modified combustion chamber.
Other useful modifications include the alternator and the injection pump, which were both moved to let the truck ford a higher water level. A 23-litre DEF tank, with a skid plate near the back bumper, is also good for 16,000 kilometres before needing a top up. Also similar to Ram, a new dual, high- and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, the first diesel engine in North America to have this, which lowers exhaust gases, especially NOx. These innovations not only kept Jeep on the track with modern trucks of today, but they are helping Jeep lead the way to the future of the pick up truck.
Combine all this together the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel creates amazing fuel economy. In this day and age when the world is moving towards more green products, drivers will be proud to say they are driving a vehicle that is on the path to a smaller carbon footprint. The FCA did not confirm, but they are promising a 30 per cent improvement over the gas V6. This was after a day of speeding at 6,000 feet registered 7.8 L/100 kilometres, with an abundance of acceleration and highway passing. That is better fuel economy than a Volkswagen Golf and it could potentially mean more than 1,100 highway kilometres between refuelling from the 83-litre tank. So you will have no trouble hitting the road and not having to stop for quite some time. A great thing when you just want to get where you are going.
The towing is limited to 3,500 pounds, but the highway power is zero to 100 km/h at around eight seconds. The 260 horsepower will take you by surprise even at higher speeds. This is especially so around 50-80 km/h, anywhere from standstill to 3,000 rpm. The eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission is paired to the diesel engine, but is an option nonetheless over the standard manual transmission in the Wrangler series. Add that to the fact that the optional 2.0-litre turbo-four and standard 3.6L V6 are great engines. So now you have all the facts get your rear into a Chrysler dealership and test out all these perks for yourself!
