2020 Ram 1500 Won Top Safety Plus Award | Toronto, Mississauga

If you put your ear on the hood of a 2020 Ram 1500 Crew Cab, you can faintly hear Ram-engineers tossing back a glass or two and maybe even dancing on their desks in celebration. It’s okay, they have someone driving them home after work, ‘cause safety is their thing, after all. Their pride and joy is the first full-size pick-up to receive an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award. Woot! The insurance industry put the Ram 1500 through its paces and it managed to drive away with the highest safety award on the market, Barrie, Brampton and Oaville.

The 1500 earned the enviable mark of “Good” in all six crash tests, including the rather tough passenger side small overlap front test. Those same engineers credit the patented splayed frame-rail construction which helps significantly in several front crash scenarios.

The technology for frontal crash avoidance is optional on the 1500, but it earned the highest-rated “Superior” mark.

Ram has had trouble in the past with its headlights letting them down and they were in very good company in that category. This time though, they have managed to pull out of that spot with the optional adaptive LED projector headlights with high beam assist that gave them the much-coveted mark of “Good.” Even managing the mark of “Acceptable” will push a manufacturer off the “Dean’s List.”

The only other truck earning a top honour was the Honda Ridgeline which did manage to get a Top Safety Pick. The Ridgeline doesn’t have a body-on-frame platform, though, which makes Ram the only “true” truck to earn its place in safety history.

Where is Ontario Chrysler located? Ontario Chrysler is located at 5280 Dixie Road in Mississauga.
