The Future Begins
I don’t know about you but I am very excited about the new developments at Jeep. Statistics Canada estimated in 2018 that there were 35,108,602 cars registered to drive on Canadian roads. Wouldn’t it be amazing if they were all hybrid or electric cars? Wouldn’t that be a wonderful world indeed, and probably not one that Louis Armstrong could have imagined. Yet now, with these new age automotive developments, Jeep has climbed on board with the Electric Jeep Wrangler 4XE Plugin Hybrid. They have also made a commitment to have an electrified powertrain in every vehicle they make by the year 2022. Now that is certainly something to sing about and in the future Ontarians will be able to jet off to one of their local dealerships in Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, Barrie, Burlington or Peel and get their mitts on a small piece of the future.
Jeep Wrangler 4XE Plugin Hybrid (photo credits by cnet.com and Roadshow) trucks may not be parading out the doors for a bit but the people at CES, also called the Global Stage for Innovation, has brought it out for the public to see. The CES is an organization that has created a place for breakthrough technology to strut its stuff, and strut its stuff it did. Now in 2020 the plugin hybrids were on display and all proudly bearing the 4XE badges. The awesome pick-up trucks to benefit will be the Compass, the Renegade and the Wrangler. While we know about the specific editions at Jeep we will not yet receive the details on their electric range, fuel economy or the gas engine that some of them will be accompanied by. We will not yet know if all three of these Jeeps will be fitted with the same engine and battery or if they in fact are planning a number of different options.
In most cases the design of the PHEV Jeeps are different from the gas Jeeps, as it has various blue accents. The Trail Rated logo for example has been outlined in blue, which really makes it pop in front of the grey body of the Jeep. They also have protruding hood decals. Of course there are official details that are still forthcoming of The Jeep 4XE but at least we know they are getting closer.
Officially Jeep confirmed that the Jeep Wrangler 4xE will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Then the Compass and Renegade will follow in April at the New York Auto Show then drive on to the Beijing Motor Show. It is important to remember that Jeep has already made a start at electrification with the eTorque mild-hybrid used in the 2019 Wrangler, but the most vital information I think is that in addition to the four new Jeep Wrangler 4XE Plugin Hybrids is already expected to create a completely electric vehicle as well. Now that is a brave new world, a wonderful world to look forward to, and now I am starting to think about the car I want to drive in the future, I will be proud to support the manufacture of more ecologically sound vehicles, for myself, for my son and for the world.
