Say goodbye to that front-end design that raised more than a few eyebrows. The new Cherokee front end is way less mannered, showcasing a simple elegance you’ll be happy to track down in the parking lot and call your own. Jeep listened to their crossover SUV fans: they added a new engine and smoother transmission, and Uconnect, which lets you work and play on Apple or Android applications.

This is a good bet for drivers with safety on their minds: here, you have adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, roll mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear cross-traffic alert. Throw in eight standard airbags and the standard backup camera, and you have peace of mind no matter where you’re headed in the GTA and beyond.

The Cherokee lineup has a new engine, too. Choose from a 2.0-liter turbo-four or 3.2-liter V-6, or the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-four. True, the 271-hp V-6  kicks it harder than the 270 hp on the turbo-four, but torque is up on the turbo edition, making 295 lb-ft, instead of 239. It’s a matter of your preference and daily driving requirements.

Even with the beefed-up torque on the turbo, the updated transmission is smoother and less chunky than before. It has lots of power for in-town commutes and adventures, and, especially if you opt for the Trailhawk, you’ll be good to go off-road, with knobbier tires, a one-inch increaser in ride height, 4-low mode, locking rear differentials, and notably improved approach, departure, and breakover angles. This is a crossover that can handle a lot and still offers a beautiful smooth drive from points A to B.
